Pansexual vs Bisexual (Meaning & Definition): Top 8 Characteristics of Pansexuals & Bisexuals to Understand Which One You Are
You’ve always known that you belong to the special group of people whose sexual preferences transcend Heterosexual boundaries.
However, when it comes to classifying your sexual preference, you aren’t quite sure where you fall – are you Bisexual?
Or are you Pansexual (sometimes called Omnisexual)? What is the difference? Is there a difference?
We’re here to help you tell the difference between a Pan Sexual and a Bi Sexual … Read On!
So Bisexual vs Pansexual, which are you? Use the 8 Guiding Characteristics below to determine for yourself … Enjoy!
In the most organic definition of Bisexuality, Bi Sexuals (or “Bi”s) like people of their own gender, and the opposite gender.
That definition came from a time where gender identity was less understood and people classified genders under pretty narrow categories.
That was where the “bi-“ prefix came from.
These days, bisexuality could refer to liking more than one gender.
Liking more than one gender places you under the category of Bi Sexuality, but you cannot consider yourself as being Pansexual if you don’t like all genders, because Pan Sexuals can like people regardless of gender.
There are many people who believe, that Bi Sexuals identify as such because they don’t really know, what sexual preference they have.
Believe us, they DO know.
They are not just Homosexuals, who don’t want to admit they’re gay.
They are Bisexual, which is why they identify as such – they like more than one gender.
Why do they do this, you ask?
It’s because it’s just that much easier, than trying to explain to a curious person about what Pansexuality (sometimes called Omnisexuality) is.
You can’t blame them for taking the easy way out instead of spending hours explaining, and technically they aren’t wrong – these two types of sexualities are pretty close.
Different, but pretty close enough.
There are people who say that Bisexuals are attracted to people with such and such an appearance, while Pansexuals are attracted to people with a beautiful soul.
Who spread this misinformation? That is complete and utter nonsense.
Both Bi Sexuals and Pan Sexuals love people for who they really are.
However, Bisexuals like more than one gender, though not all of them, while Pansexuals are attracted to all genders.
Bisexuals can like more than one gender, or even a spectrum of genders, but they certainly don’t like all of them.
Pansexuals like all genders out there. In fact, you can say that gender doesn’t matter to someone who is Pansexual.
They can even like people who don’t identify as any gender at all.
While it is true that Pansexuals like people of all genders, it is NOT true that they like just about anyone they see.
Just think about it – do Heterosexuals like anyone, so long as they are the opposite gender?
No. The same logic applies here.
The gender does not matter to Pan Sexuals, but the person still matters.
It’s just that they have a wider pool of people to choose from because they aren’t restricted by gender in any way or form.
For a Pansexual, outer appearance which relates to gender identity does not matter at all.
Of course, an attractive person will remain attractive to them no matter what.
However, for example, it does not matter to them if a female dresses like a male or extremely feminine; or if a male dresses in a super macho way or in a girly way.
As long as that person’s personality attracts them, they’re attracted to that person. In a way, you can say that Pan Sexuals are less shallow than the average person.
It sounds really silly, but it is a misconception which many people have.
Just because someone’s gender doesn’t matter to them, it does not mean that they don’t know what gender that person is.
If it doesn’t matter to you what your partner is wearing when you go out together, it doesn’t mean that you can’t see what they’re wearing.
Pansexuals can clearly see others’ gender and acknowledge it – it just doesn’t matter to them what that person’s gender is.
Gender just isn’t a consideration for Pan Sexuals in their interactions with that person.
After going through this list even briefly, it shouldn’t be all that difficult to tell the difference between Pansexuals and Bisexuals.
True, they might be kind of similar when you think about it, but there are clearly stark differences between the two.
In the end, what does it matter which sexuality you identify as?
If you love someone, you love them – their personality and your chemistry together should come first and foremost.
